NBA Asks Referees to Make ‘Following the Rules’ a Point of Emphasis This Season

The NBA league office has asked its officiating staff to take special note of an important aspect of their jobs for all upcoming games.  Namely, follow the rules.

In a statement released earlier this week, the NBA said the following:

As the NBA moves forward with more exciting basketball, we have asked our officials to read the rule book and try to do better at following all the stuff in there.

A source close to the league is reporting that many of the referees were irritated by the announcement.

“This is an outrage,” said an official who wished to remain anonymous.  “People pay good money to see us.  Fans are on the edge of their seats to see what rules we feel like enforcing that night.  Following the rules like this will make us rigidly predictable and will result in a total leveling of the playing field.”

Upon hearing this press release the Houston Rockets franchise has folded.
